Experience the life of a Shaolin Warrior through Shaolin Martial Zen and the arts of Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Qigong, Meditation, and Zen philosophy!

The Shaolin Winter Retreat is a 16-hour, two-day Shaolin training program for adults. It is held on Saturday, December 21st and Sunday, December 22, 2024, from 9am to 5pm, at the downtown Toronto STQI school at 393 Dundas Street West, second floor.

This is a time for people to dedicate themselves to spiritual and physical growth. The event is open to everyone, including those without experience in the Shaolin arts.

Shaolin Winter Retreat Meditation and Philosophy

The Morning Program

Each day begins with a morning meditation and philosophy session. The aim is develop what we call Self-Wisdom. By working on our perceptual thoughts, our emotions, and the subconscious, we can discover true peace and happiness.

We encourage everyone to bring their problems and questions about life for discussion, so that Master Dao can answer them directly and provide guidance.

The rest of the morning is about martial training. Students may opt to train in Shaolin Kung Fu and/or Shaolin Tai Chi. We will focus on the fundamentals of these arts, called foundation exercises. This includes warm up drills, stretching, stance training, basic techniques, and foundation taolu forms.

Shaolin Winter Retreat Tai Chi

The Lunch Program

By noon, students will have worked up an appetite, and we will have a vegetarian lunch together. The meal is included in the program. Students with specific dietary needs may bring their own food.

Another philosophy and meditation session follows as the food digests.

Shaolin Winter Retreat Qigong

The Afternoon Program

The afternoon is an intense training period.

It begins with energy-boosting qigong exercises which may include elements of foundation qigong, intermediate qigong forms, and stretch therapy.

It follows with more advanced Shaolin Kung Fu and/or Shaolin Tai Chi exercises and taolu forms, including theory, application, and light sparring.

Shaolin Winter Retreat Kung Fu

You are encouraged to push your limits in your training, although you are not pressured to do more than you can. We do not want students to develop injuries. There will be plenty of breaks throughout the day and students can opt to sit out any time to recover.

The event will be limited to 20 students. You must be 18 years of age or older in order to participate. We will make some exceptions for teenagers who have previously participated in the meditation session of the Summer Shaolin Retreat.

Pricing for STQI Students of the 2024 T3 Winter Term (with at least 14 tokens) is discounted at $245 + tax. The fee for all others, including the public is $295 + tax.
