The Shaolin Virtues
Master Dao’s wisdom teaches us to follow 6 virtues to achieve peace in our hearts.

What is the Shaolin Virtue of Strive?

The Shaolin Virtue of Strive is about the willpower to improve. It’s not so easy to make the decision to learn new things and improve oneself. One has to overcome low spirits, low energy, or face oneself humbly. When you strive, you open new doors and broaden your understanding. When you do not strive, you close your doors and lose the opportunity for growth.

How Will the Shaolin Virtue of Strive Help Me?

By developing your Shaolin Virtue of Strive:

  • You will increase your breadth of knowledge and skills
  • You will improve your understanding of reality
  • You will open new possibilities for yourself
  • You will develop the attitude for continuous improvement
  • You will develop the proper foundation for the Shaolin Virtue of Respect

Why is Shaolin Virtue of Strive Important?

If you do not develop your Shaolin Virtue of Strive:

  • You will stunt your mental and physical growth
  • You will be unable to realize your potential in life
  • You will become single minded
  • You will become stubborn
  • You will experience boredom

How Do I Develop the Shaolin Virtue of Strive?

  • Set aside time to learn new things
  • Adapting a mentality of ‘how can I improve further?’

Pitfalls of the Shaolin Virtue of Strive

  • Showing off or becoming a braggart (lack of humility)
  • Developing arrogance from thinking you are great
  • Developing a scatter brain - i.e. know when you are ready to strive and how much
  • Developing perfectionism and getting sad because you cannot achieve something

What Happens When I Apply the Shaolin Virtue of Strive?

As you develop your Shaolin Virtue of Strive:

  • You will have clear goals in life that may change from time-to-time
  • Your mind and perceptual layers become flexible
  • You will want to seek continuous improvement for mental and physical health
  • You will have the motivation to learn more and learn new things
  • You will perceive criticisms directed toward yourself differently
  • You will no longer look for or care for perfection in yourself
  • You will not compare yourself to others in a self-defeating way
  • You will find joy in learning from anyone and anything
  • You will find every aspect of life interesting
